We select our rams from across South Australia from a wide variety of properties. We always make sure rams arrive to us in a good bill of health.
Once rams are in our care, we vaccinate and drench them routinely and check them for any health issues which may effect their productivity.
Once rams return from hire, they are placed in an isolation paddock for a period of time before reentering the flock.
It is your responsibility to implement your own biosecurity plan. SA Ram Hire highly recommends isolating a ram for a minimum of 1 week.
SA Ram Hire attempts to minimise the risk of disease when transporting rams. We vaccinate rams with a 6-in-1, and test every 12 months for brucellosis to ensure they are in their best health.
One of our requirements is that a ram hasn't been on your property for more than 3 months. This is to prevent any spread of disease, mainly brucellosis,
Our rams are not vaccinated for Johne's disease. This is due to the certification required and because all properties that our rams attend would have to be on the same Johne's vaccination program.
Rams can be dangerous but we pride ourselves on having calm, safe rams. However, we do not guarantee this and highly recommend not hand feeding rams or coming in close contact with them.
Please feel free to get in touch with us at any time with any questions you may have.
